This was a Similarity / Proximity Project. We had to create a collaged image that illustrated a 4 to 6 word phrase of our choosing. The text was to be incorportated with imagery through the use of the Gestalt Grouping Laws.
I chose the phrase "Quoth the raven 'Nevermore.'" from Edgar Allan's poem "The Raven."
I used the proximity law on "Quoth" and "the raven". "Quoth" follows the top of the composition while "the raven" follows along the back of the raven within the composition. I used the similarity law on "Nevermore." "Nevermore" uses similarity through color because each letter is some shade of red. "Nevermore could also be considered part-proximity because all the letters are contained within a speech bubble since it is the raven that says "Nevermore."
Lenore, who is mentioned in the poem, is also within the collage. Her face is covered up by the speech bubble. Her name "Lenore" is spelled out with letters of the same color, font, and size.
Images found from Entertainment Weekly and various video game magazines. Pasted with rubber cement.
nice collage. we are studying gestalt principles in school now, and im doing a collage sort of thing on continuance and rhythm...i also did a piece about this poem...typography stuff...called nevermore.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
